You Thought Your Weather Was Bad

As some of you may know my little brother is finishing up his tour in Iraq this month. He sent me this picture of a sandstorm. Not a good place to put your contact lenses in I'm thinking.

Man, that's not bad weather. It's evil.

Can you imagine that on exposed skin? Ouch!

I'm glad he'll be home soon. Whether or not I agree with anyone being there, thank him for his service for me.

I would think he'll still be digging sand out of his ass-crack a year from now too.

The Iraqi Stonehenge needs some more work to draw on the mainstream tourist market.

One advantage over the real Stonehenge, about 10,000 fewer Immersion English students giggling their way round the perimeter.

Just a few hours drive from Denver is the great car henge. Its worth a visit if you're in western Nebraska.

Ger

It does not look very nice.

Mike

Yes but maybe it could give you a fine skin abrasing facial? They'd pay good money for that in West Hollywood.

Sam

Ha, ha, yeah poor bugger. Two days to go now I think, though I've emailed him about all those cop movies where its an officer's "last day on the job" and it all goes to shit just to keep him on his toes.

Tim

Thanks man. The McKinty family appreciates the support.

I've opposed the war from day one-
in 2003 I participated to the "train-blockings" laying on the railway tracks to stop the passage of US military trains from the bases in the North to the port of Livorno.
And many other pacifist/anti-war manifestations in subsequent years, such as those against the enlargement of the US military base in Vicenza.
This is not relevant here, but I felt I had to say it.

I'm glad your brother is coming home.
I cannot imagine the tension and anxiety of your family in the last months.

I can understand both points of view. I think on the pro side the most eloquent of advocates is Christopher Hitchens (a Marxist neo con if you can believe such a thing) and on the anti I like Brian Appleyard.

I have no interest in vulgar thinkers like Michael Moore or the "analysts" who inhabit the studios of Fox News.

Yeah we're keeping the fingers crossed but he's a sensible lad.

Not weighing in with any wise ass comments here. I do hope your brother comes home safe. I'm struck by what a new world we live in when the troops can send home seemingly instantaneous photos of where they are and what's going on. Imagine the trenches of WWI, or even the jungles of Vietnam broadcast so vicerally. I don't know that it will do much to eliminate war, but I do think it must help the people soldiers will return to understand some small aspect of what they've been living through.

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty cool pic and the colours were very Halloweeny too.

There is still military censorship I believe, so only certain photographs can be sent. Still, I agree, you wouldnt get stuff like that in the old days.

My husband is there right now and sent me many similar pictures. Rough life it is!

I hope that he keeps his head down and comes back safe.

From what my little brother tells me they're doing really good work out there.
