Adrian McKinty, Come On Down!

I've been nominated for a Spinetingler Magazine Award for my novel Fifty Grand. If you liked Fitty G you can vote for me at Spinetingler Mag, here. I'm in the rising star category and funnily enough I'm up against my old pal Brian Evenson. Don't vote for Brian, though, he's the head of Creative Writing at Brown and he must be raking it in. All right vote for him if you want, his book, Last Days was brilliant. Another mate of mine Stu Neville is up in the new voice category for his excellent Ghosts of Belfast.
...
In other Spinetingler news, I have a little piece up on there, first published on, erm, April 1st revealing some vital information about James Patterson.

Done.

And nice April 1st article, Adrian.

Are you kidding me? A Spinetingler has nowhere near the prestige of that Lowhead Dam Award that Fitty G won last year. And you didn't have to suborn perjury to win it either.

Congratulations. Well deserved, it's a magnificent book.

Consider yourself voted for, Adrian.

Wait, are they coming after us next because you shared the truth with us?

I'm a James Patterson fan and I vote.

Just kidding. Very much NOT a Patterson fan and of course you got my vote.

(Very funny April 1st article, Adrian.)

Thanks bro, I appreciate it.

I love the phrase suborn perjury it so jurisprudential.

Paul

Thanks man.

You are doomed. All of us "in the know" about Patterson are doomed. In fact I suppose I should have done some kind of warning before posting the link.

Holden

Thank you, I appreciate that.

There must be JP fans out there somewhere though mustnt there? How else to explain the 5 million copies sold a year?

You got a vote from me. I haven't seen "The Player" (and I'm not sure I'd enjoy stars basking in the luxury of being able to make fun of their own business). But at least it tells the truth. Writers are almost as unnecessary as copy editors.

Now PR, writers are the raison d'etre of copy editors and so cannot be almost as unnecessary.

Its not as obnoxious as you'd think, although its been a while since I saw it. I wonder how Altman will hold up over time - his films seem very of their era.

Ah who can forget what Bill Hicks said about PR men? I wonder what he'd make of Mad Men?

New Bill Hicks doc out, gonna catch it in a couple of weeks.

I want to write a story that includes an Indonesian character named Suborn Purjeree.

My editor at Holt was Supurna Banerjee. I just realised the comic potential there.

Purjeree would be a great lawyer in an Indian comic novel.

I'd learned of this over on Peter Rozovsky's blog, which is also up for a nomination.

My ballot has been cast, is all I'm saying.

As a loyal party man I voted for Peter and Stu Neville.

And I did actually vote for Brian.

And, as a loyal party man, I just bought The Way of the World at a local independent bookshop.

Good men, both of you. But I'm still not revealing my vote.

Brian Lindenmuth said...

Oh, well, this is awkward. You see Adrian you were really supposed to be nominated but by the time we realized our mistake it was too late. That makes you the Marisa Tomei of the Spinetingler Awards.

:)

The truth was really buried in an April 1st article.

Weird side story Seana: To date no one knows who my Dad has ever voted for or even what his politics are. He is a staunch believer in the secret ballot and would never discuss his vote with anyone ever.

Brian Lindenmuth said...

"weren't" that is

I think that's pretty cool, Brian. Actually, I think my voting pattern could probably pretty easily be deduced. But I do value the secret ballot even in cases where there's no real punishment. As it happens both my long time boss and his son have run for and been elected to city and county office. Although there is never any pressure from them, there is in fact an internal pressure anyway. I wouldn't ever want to have to lie about my decision, so I think I may take your dad's stance as my own in future.
