More about me
I was born and grew up in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. After studying philosophy at Oxford University I emigrated to New York City where I lived in Harlem for seven years working in bars, bookstores, building sites and finally the basement stacks of the Columbia University Medical School Library in Washington Heights.
In 2000 I moved to Denver, Colorado where I taught high school English and started writing fiction in earnest. My first full length novel Dead I Well May Be was shortlisted for the 2004 Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award and was picked by Booklist as one of the 10 best crime novels of the year. The sequel to that book The Dead Yard was selected by Publishers Weekly as one of the 12 best novels of 2006 and won the Audie Award for best mystery or thriller.
In mid 2008 I moved to St. Kilda, Melbourne, Australia with my wife and kids. My last book Falling Glass was Audible's Best Mystery or Thriller for 2011. I've just published a new novel for Serpents Tail called The Cold Cold Ground.

Australia have been beating England at Cricket and rugby for years. Its been killing us, killing us I tell you. Thats why it makes it sooooo sweet. The post mortem into why the Aussies lost and going soft is just sillyness. They will come back, But for now, hoorah! we have kept the tiny urn for a little bit longer.

That was an interesting observation. The other thing I noticed was the high proportion of apparently retarded commenters. I felt right at home.

The Daily Telegraph gets a LOT of fringe lunatics; not just the usual birthers but also 9/11 conspiracy theorists, new world order types and the odd we are controlled by lizard alien David Icke types.
I wondered when about the Telegraph's readership when I read the comment up top that suggested England's decline in cricket was due to 13 years of socialism under that rabid lefty, Tony Blair.
Here in America, virtually any string of public comments online degenerates into vituperation within the first two or three comments.
I think England's 2005 Ashes team really enjoyed the celebrity treatment, plus they had some really great characters on that squad. AUS is still in transition and have never recovered from the dominant fast bowlers they have lost over the last few years. Shaun Tait was good and dangerous, but injuries got the best of him.
I thought this in 2005 and have ever since. PONTING HAS TO GO!!
