Falling Glass Freebie Competition!

Haven't got your copy of Falling Glass yet? Well your laziness/tightfistedness/lack of interest may have paid off. I have got one signed first edition copy of Falling Glass to give away to a reader of this blog! And if you've already bought a copy, firstly my starving children thank you but secondly as an added bonus I'm also going to include the first half dozen pages of the book I'm working on right now which is so secret even I don't know what the hell its about.
...
Ok so it's a pretty easy competition. Falling Glass is the story of an Irish Traveller called Killian who is in the people finding business. In a deleted chapter I had Killian flashback to a birthday party he celebrated with another old character of mine Michael Forsythe. At an early stage the editor and I agreed that the chapter slowed the book down so I cut it. I don't think the chapter ever appeared anywhere, either in an ARC or even in an internal Serpents Tail galley; therefore the only people who know the date of Killian's birthday are the editor and me.
...
This then is the question: What is Killian's birthday? It's going to have to be a pure guess - there's no way - I think - you could work it out from the novel. The person who gets closest to the actual date will win the book and the mystery manuscript. Please put your answers in the comments below along with some kind of contact info. The competition will close exactly 48 hours after the time and date stamp on this blog post. (Don't forget that's Melbourne time folks, i.e. 11 hours ahead of GMT).
...
I will give you one clue. Killian's birthday is the feast day of a well known Saint. Not necessarily an Irish Saint. But not necessarily NOT an Irish Saint either.

June 3, 1970. Only having the audio book makes it much harder to go back and look for dates, so I'm going blind here.
Great story, by the way. I left my review on Amazon and Audible. Thank you for the fine writing Sir!

I'm not actually sure if there is a copy on the way here or not, so I guess I'd better hedge my bets and guess.

July 8th, 1968.

JUST THE DAY IS ENOUGH.

My copy is ordered, but what the heck, I can give that away should I be lucky enough to win this. I'll go for October 16, St Gerard's feast day.

September 24, because it's the first date to appear in my mind. Can't wait for the book and will definitely post the review on Amazon after I finish it.

Oh yeah, did you see this blasphemy? Frown of deep suspicion.

I'm thinking I put every day of the year in a hat and just draw one and have a better chance, but I'm too lazy for that.

Ahhh June 29th. If only someone had taken Gavrilo Princip for a banana nut muffin and a cup of coffee on June 29th 1914 then the whole history of the twentieth century would be different.

Whats that you say Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on June 28th 1914?

Oh, ok then the banana nut muffin would have been too late. Shame.

My guess is 8 July, which is the feast day of St Kilian / Killian / Cillian. He was an Irish-born saint who became famous on the continent. The patron saint of some part of Germany, I think.

August 8th, for the Aussie saint's day.

And, I've been unsuccessfully trying to buy your new book from the The Book Depository. Here's what they had to say:
"I am terribly sorry but it appears this item has been market restricted in certain countries." I'm in the US. Apparently Amazon has no such restrictions. Mysterious!

Matt said...

It is available on Canada's Amazon site.

Fun contest. I am a Christian and not overly familiar with the various saints. I'm going with December 13 because it's the feast day for Saint Lucy, which is my youngest daughter's name, and my birthday. I'm hoping for some luck as I'd love a copy of the book, along with everyone else. (contact is David, djd233@gmail.com)

I'll go for October 28th Adrian, feast of St Jude, patron saint of lost causes. My day job is Religion teacher, you've piqued my interest..

I've a personal interest to declare also. Our third and final child was Killian for 4 wks until my wife had a weekend crisis about hating the name so we changed it. He continues to be referred to in family gatherings as the Infant formerly known as Killian.

As a devious crime writer I reckon that you'd be too obvious with Killian's feast day which is July 8th. So it's Saint Jude for me.

Nice idea for a post and besta luck with the new book.

ps. You got a fine write-up in the Irish Times from David Park, a good buddy of mine.

1 March. St David's Day. St Patrick was Welsh (all the best people are) and St David is the patron saint of Wales.

6th June, St Bookwitch's day.
You don't want me to have any early pages of anything. I'd sell them. Pass them off as my own.
