Australian beer commercials have always been good. In fact Australian beer commercials are much better than actual Australian beer which is kind of samey and bland. Carlton and VB have always had funny ads but Tooheys has decided that the way to go is with creepy. Their tongue ad from a few years back is notorious and this ad which is everywhere in Oz right now is strangely disturbing. Somehow this seems worse than a zombie plague to me. The music is Breathe by the Prodigy.

And here's the Rihanna video that was filmed in Belfast.

I have three observations. 1. This is not her best song. 2. I think I've been in that chip shop. 3. Its never a good idea to wear your DM boots in the bath tub.
Having just read the Daphne DuMaurier story "The Birds", I just can't find deer that creepy.
I wonder why they didn't ever let them have any beer.
I hope it's not her best song, because lyricwise, it doesn't have much content.

Nope its a pretty feeble effort.
I havent been in that exact barley field but I know that area very well. In fact its just about a mile from Colin Bateman's house.
I actually forgot it was set in Belfast, so now I'm going to have to watch it again. Unfortunately.
Seana
There's always the mute button.
Uh, that's actually how I watched it just now. And I liked it a bit more than I did the first time.
Aussie beer sucks?
How can you go there.
Seana
Some nice shots of the New Lodge flats. You couldnt have gone there fifteen years ago to film anything.

I go there. Aussie beer is pretty terrible. VB actually tastes worse than Budweiser. It's like drinking a can of rust.
There are a few decent microbreweries but nowhere near the number in N America. When I was in Perth I visited the Little Creatures brewery and I found that encouraging.
Yeah, I enjoyed getting a flavor of the place. Well, enjoy maybe isn't the word. The barley fields were very lovely though. If only some Irish girl on an iron bicycle had happened along it would have been perfect.

The barley field behind my house in Coronation Road looked exactly like that one. And the view over the lough would have been nearly identical. And there were a few cars driven into the middle of field but not a Trans Am.
That would be nice. When we moved into our house in Dublin (California)it was surrounded by mustard fields. Which was pretty glorious, except for the fact that I was as allergic to them as I've never been to anything else.
All built up soon, though, which made things easier if not as beautiful.
Seana
Yeah the enormous barley field behind my house is gone too redeveloped into hundreds of houses except for this tiny patch here:
barley field
Well, at least there's that. Yeah, Dublin got all filled in, but there's tons of undeveloped land all around still. Which is heartening, really.
"Beer! Gimmee a beer!" said Meyer as he lurched across the deck of the Busted Flush. McGee gave him a disgusted look, thought about it for a second, and took it back. "Frankly Meyer I am not going to waste a disgusted look on you. I might need it later on the novel, anyway. And I'd rather give it to one of those jolly, bouncing, empty-headed Sallys and Janes who think that tomorrow is just another word for forever." Meyer raised an eyebrow and gave a nasty squint. "What the hell, McGee, that doesn't even make sense, you cheap grifter." McGee leaned back in his deck chair and took a large gulp of Boodles. "Can it, Mister, you wouldn't know a poetic soul if he came up and bit you on the ankle."

Great concept for a spot, if they were all like that I wouldn't have to TiVo everything first. By the print ads I see in bars here in the states you must have seen a few good Guiness commercials in your time.
Bright Wind
They still make Boodles? That's surprising but not shocking.
Almost every yacht I've been on has a bottle of B or Gordons hidden away in the chart table.

Guinness ads have never been that good because they dont have to be. Guinness dominates the market so all their ads have to say is "yup we're here."
hahaha....i saw that one the other night and it gave me the booboojeebees...so that is where all the beer money goes to...hmmm.
oh yeah and the tongue one was crazy haha
Dan
You know what I had last night? A Duff beer. They make them in Germany and they wont last long before Fox close them down. I got it mainly so that I could keep the bottle but the beer was ok.
Ay, rippling fields of golden barley, an old man in a cloth cap with a twinkle in his eye, a pretty colleen on a cast-iron bike. Now, there's your Ireland.
Could you write something like that, maybe?
