The 2011 Rugby World Cup takes place this year in New Zealand. I'm going to try to get over for a couple of the Ireland games. Of course the All Blacks will be able to shout the fearsome haka on home territory. It used to be so intimidating, but honestly after you've seen this, it all seems a bit ridiculous:

I want them to come to the city where Fetch and I were born so we can have Haka Night in Canada. (Non-Canadians forgiven if they miss the reference to the country’s long-running television hockey broadcasts.

One of the reasons I like this video is that the girls talking in the background clearly have Irish accents. Ireland v New Zealand - the meeting of the ice hockey giants.
have you seen the bloody prices? I was hoping to go and see some of Wales' matches but not at that price.
At least I'm living in the right time zone to watch it on Telly.
I'll have to give it another listen. I heard the girls but did not notice the accents. Maybe everything sounds Canadian to me when I watch hockey.

Yes, Peter, Haka Night in Canada would be a lot of fun.
I've been waiting a long time for Ireland and Australia and new Zealand and England and Scotland to get into the top levels of hockey.
As this is (mostly) a books blog I feel I should mention a hockey book that might help explain it to the rest of the world so I'm going to point people to the recently released The Greatest Game. Peter will remember, New Year's Eve 1975, the Montreal Canadiens host the Soviet Red Army.
Well, it was a big deal in Canada...

The prices are brutal. I think I'm going to be able to afford to go to one game: Ireland v USA. The semis and final are completely out.

Me too. I still really cant get past the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

Thanks for the tip!
I feel that Ireland has a chance of stirring interest if we keep getting brutal winters when things actually freeze over. It hardly ever happened when I was a kid. I barely remember snow.
Although 9 years in Denver did not convince me.
Actually, my hockey memories are a lot stronger of the Canada-Russia series in 1972. That series' only fortunate legacy is that international hockey teams are now routinely referred to in the American Press as "Team (Name of country)," an honor that should be reserved for the original Team Canada.
