No Alibis

Remember when David and Saul joined forces to do battle with the enemies of Jehovah at Mt Gilboa? And remember when the Sex Pistols played at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester and everyone there subsequently formed a band? And remember when JD Salinger and Ernest Hemingway liberated the bar of the Ritz Hotel in August 1944? Of course you do, you're a well read man/woman about town. Well on Thursday night for one night only Declan Burke and I request the pleasure of your company for a similar epoch defining event when we read from our new novels at No Alibis Bookshop in Belfast.
...
There will be fireworks, sparklers, possibly glo sticks. If things go badly Dec and I will slip to the panic room or we will perform Abbot and Costello's Who's on First routine...Do come along. That's No Alibis Bookshop, Belfast, Thursday the 18th of August at 6.00 p.m.
...
And if you want to hear my interview yesterday with Kim Lenaghan on BBC Radio Ulster's Arts Extra you can do so here.

Adrian - Have a good time and do what you like, but please don't sing. Unless it's about hunting or war or other forms of manly killing.

I shall sing Bruce Springstreen's blue collar torch song The River and do the saxophone bits on a kazoo. It will be quite something to see.

Someone should light a candle by the Peter Falk painting.

Yeah, don't sing and don't tell jokes either, because I read somewhere recently that humor is too risky. Make sure Declan doesn't break out into any foolish or unmanly behaviour either. Try and be as serious and somber as you both can--probably best not to look at each other--and you may just possibly get through without making complete idiots of yourselves.

Also, don't burn down the place with that candle.

Oh,yeah--and have a good time!

Any chance of it being recorded so us poor souls that have to miss can enjoy it vicariously? A girl can hope right?

Peter

I shall do that.

Sound advice. Our dignity is paramount. And this is for edification.

David used to record these events but I dont think he does anymore. I'll ask and see...

You and Squire Burke at the same place at the same time. Only an ocean could keep me away.

Please let us know if there is a recording.

Any chance you will do a reading at a Dublin bookstore while you are in Ireland?

I'll be relying on Dec to be the funny interesting one. I feel that I'm more of a natural straight man.

Alas not on this trip. Maybe for the next one.

And yeah I will definitely ask David what the story is with recording. Like I say he used to do it but I dont think he does it anymore...

I admire your writing, and wish I could write place-descriptions half as good as yours, but I'm afraid I'm not much good. Does good writing require photographic memory and a superior IQ? I'm afraid I have neither of those things.

I'm sorry for accidentally leaving the same comment twice. I hope "Falling Glass" comes out in the US soon.
